◆ MINDFUL ARCHITECTURAL PAPERCRAFT
Slow Down and Rebuild Britain’s Historic Landmarks at Your Kitchen Table.
Welcome to Castles in Cardboard. We design and publish tactile A4 3D architectural papercraft books and printable architectural kits of Britain’s most beloved castles, cathedrals, and coastal fortresses. Thoughtfully engineered in Kent for history lovers, mindful crafters, and heritage gift shops.
OUR STORY & PHILOSOPHY
A Calm, Screen-Free Evening with British History.
There is a quiet, restorative magic in clearing a corner of the kitchen table, putting the kettle on, and turning away from glowing screens for an evening. At Castles in Cardboard, we create 3D architectural papercraft books and mindful craft kits for adults, families, and history enthusiasts who love working with their hands. Using sustainably sourced, heavy unbleached cardstock, each project invites you to slow down—cutting, scoring, and folding precision-drawn elevations until a storied piece of Britain’s architectural heritage stands before you.
Born on a sunlit workbench overlooking the shingle beaches of Deal and Walmer, our studio draws daily inspiration from Kent coastal history and the remarkable masonry of British historic landmarks. Whether you are searching for thoughtful, plastic-free British heritage gifts, collecting tactile architectural scale models of Tudor artillery fortresses and medieval keeps, or curating distinctive wholesale museum souvenirs for visitors to carry home in a daypack, our editions celebrate the enduring beauty of historic stone through the warmth of paper.

BEHIND THE SCENES IN EAST KENT
Currently on the Studio Cutting Mat: The East Kent Coastal Collection
From our workbench overlooking the sea in Deal and Walmer, we are test-building, scoring, and hand-illustrating the first wave of Kent heritage models and historic British fortifications. Before any edition goes to press, we build dozens of plain white-card prototypes to make sure every bastion, roof pitch, and crenellation locks together cleanly and satisfyingly without frustration.
We are working directly with local UK heritage printers to select FSC-certified 240gsm warm oatmeal card stocks that fold crisply while capturing the subtle, weathered textures of authentic coastal stone.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about our architectural papercraft books, print-at-home kits, and museum retail partnerships.
What exactly is a Castles in Cardboard model book?
Each Castles in Cardboard edition is a flat-pack A4 collector’s book that blends illustrated architectural history with precision-engineered, press-ready cardstock model sheets. You simply remove the heavy model pages, cut along the clean architectural trim lines, fold along the scored guides, and assemble an accurate 3D scale model of a treasured British landmark.
Do I need special craft tools or prior model-making experience?
No prior architectural or model-making experience is required. Our kits are thoughtfully engineered for beginners and seasoned crafters alike, supported by calm, wordless step-by-step visual diagrams. To enjoy the build at your kitchen table, you only need a sharp craft knife or scissors, a metal ruler for crisp folds, a cutting mat, and standard PVA glue.
Will your models be available as printable PDF downloads?
Yes. Alongside our physical A4 souvenir books stocked in heritage gift shops, selected landmarks will be released as print-at-home digital editions. Each digital kit includes instant-download PDF and SVG templates formatted for both UK A4 and US Letter heavy cardstock (180gsm to 250gsm recommended), plus our complete illustrated instruction booklet.
Are your paper and printing materials eco-friendly?
Sustainability is at the heart of our East Kent studio. All physical model books are printed in the UK using FSC-certified, responsibly sourced heavy unbleached and matte cardstock with vegetable-based inks. Our packaging is 100% plastic-free, biodegradable, and recyclable.
Do you supply wholesale to museum, castle, and heritage gift shops?
Yes, we partner directly with museum buyers, cathedral gift shops, historic attractions, and independent bookshops across the UK.
