01 // THE STUDIO FORMAT

Designed like Blueprints. Bound like Books. Built by Hand.

Every Castles in Cardboard publication bridges the gap between an architectural history guidebook and a precision scale model kit—celebrating Britain’s built heritage through tactile, screen-free craftsmanship.

Currently on the Studio Cutting Mat: The East Kent Coastal & Heritage Collection

Our inaugural collection focuses on the historic coastal fortifications, medieval gatehouses, and monumental stonework of Kent. Tudor Coastal Artillery Fortresses

Exploring the geometric symmetry of Henry VIII’s Device Forts along the Kentish Downs and English Channel—studying concentric bastion rings, curved masonry walls, and low-profile artillery battlements in layered cardstock.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are Castles in Cardboard model books?

Castles in Cardboard publications are precision A4 cut-out-and-glue architectural scale model books celebrating British historic buildings. Each book pairs historical commentary and architectural diagrams with pre-printed, fine-illustrated heavy cardstock sheets that fold and bond into a permanent 3D scale model of a real British castle, cathedral, or coastal landmark.

What tools and skill levels are required?

Our range spans detailed 14+ collector builds for adult architecture enthusiasts through to accessible family heritage kits. No specialist modelling equipment is required: every kit is engineered to be built at a kitchen table using only sharp scissors or a craft knife, a ruler for crisp scoring, and standard PVA craft glue.

Are models available as digital printable PDFs?

Yes. Alongside our litho-printed physical souvenir books, selected architectural kits will launch as instant-download digital printable PDFs and SVG cut files. Digital editions are dual-formatted for both UK/European A4 and North American US Letter heavy cardstock (160gsm–220gsm recommended).

Do you supply wholesale to museum, cathedral, and heritage gift shops?

Yes. Our physical A4 model books are specifically designed as high-margin, plastic-free cultural souvenirs with compact countertop display footprints. We utilize small-batch UK printing on FSC-certified archival board and offer both wholesale stock packages and bespoke site-specific landmark commissions for museums, cathedrals, and historic properties.
